In the last week, Khéma La Poste had the pleasure of welcoming Louis Scotti. Louis is a French retiree who decided to settle in the Kingdom in 2013. Renowned for his irreverent nature and extensive travels, Louis frequently shares detailed accounts of his travels across Asia on social networks.
Interview
For those of you who don’t yet know Louis Scotti, can you introduce yourself in a few words?
The first occasion of my visit to Cambodia was in 2007, at which time I was still engaged in professional activities in France. My visits to the country increased in frequency; however, I finally settled in 2013, when France agreed to provide me with a pension. Prior to this, I pursued a career as a building contractor in La Rochelle.
What brought you to Cambodia?
The decision to remain in Cambodia was not a difficult one to make. The rationale behind my decision to remain in Cambodia is that, in France, my financial resources would place me in a vulnerable position; a circumstance that is not applicable in this country. Furthermore, the relaxed lifestyle of Cambodia is an attractive factor. The warmth of the climate is also a factor. At a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, I experience no discomfort; when the temperature is 25 degrees Celsius, I wear a jumper. Furthermore, the people are a significant factor in my decision to remain in Cambodia. The Khmer smile, with its inherent warmth and genuineness, has proven to be a particularly salient aspect of the country’s culture that I find deeply appealing. While other destinations may have been available, the complexity of visa acquisition was a deterrent. Cambodia is perceived as being more accommodating than Thailand or Vietnam, which are also favored destinations.
What are your current activities?
In addition to undertaking personal travel for leisure, I engage in voluntary work, notably with the Association d’Entraide des Français du Cambodge (AEFC) and the Kep Educational Centre, which is affiliated with the organization of Princess Sylvia Sisowath. The Kep Educational Centre provides educational and recreational activities for children during the day, including dance classes, computer training, and sports activities. Furthermore, we collaborate with numerous other associations, including Kep for Children, with the aim of facilitating access to our facilities.

Are you a gourmet or a food lover?
Despite undergoing certain changes with the effects of ageing, I would define myself as a gourmand. I have a particular affinity for French cuisine, yet I also hold a deep appreciation for Khmer gastronomy.
What’s your impression of Khéma La Poste?
The variety of options on offer is appealing, and the buffet format is a commendable innovation. The combination of starters, cheeses, and desserts, accompanied by a selection of main courses, is an ideal arrangement. As you can see from my plate, I’m quite a fan of cheese, and I’ll probably be back (smile).
