About Catherine Germier-Hamel, a Champion of Sustainable Tourism

Catherine Germier-Hamel is celebrated for her tireless efforts in promoting environmentally conscious travel practices worldwide. Born in France of Eurasian heritage, she has spent her career traversing continents, from Africa to Southeast Asia, leaving a lasting impact on the tourism industry.
Germier-Hamel began her professional journey in environmental utility management, working in developing nations. She holds a master’s degree in business administration and management from Neoma Business School (1992) and a post-graduate degree in Sustainable Tourism Development from the University of Paris Nanterre (2004).
In 2005, she moved to South Korea, where she transitioned into sustainable tourism. She promoted wine tourism and served as F&B Marketing Manager at Novotel Gangnam Hotel. From 2008 to 2013, she was the Director of Global Programs for the UNWTO’s Sustainable Tourism for Eliminating Poverty (ST-EP) Foundation.

Millennium Destinations

In 2016, Germier-Hamel founded Millennium Destinations, a Seoul-based enterprise offering consulting services and innovative solutions for sustainable tourism development and marketing. She also co-founded Herost in 2019. Herost is an online platform advocating for eco-friendly travel experiences.
>In 2021, she became the CEO of Destination Mekong, a private Destination Management and Marketing Organization focused on promoting the Greater Mekong Sub-region as a sustainable tourism destination. Under her leadership, Destination Mekong has championed sustainable tourism ecosystems across Cambodia, neighboring countries and China.
>As of July 2024, Germier-Hamel joined the World Bank as a part-time consultant for the Cambodia Sustainable Landscapes and Ecotourism Project. She also co-founded the Inner Development Goals (IDG) Global Tourism Network in April 2024.
>Ms Germier-Hamel’s work embodies a dedication to creating harmonious and sustainable communities through tourism, inspiring a new generation of leaders in the industry.
